THE BIG PICTURE

Our Pros need helpful tools on the job, and we feel that their digital tools are no different. They need utility, functionality, and an ability to assist them in finishing the task at hand. Some, like a stud-finder, are there to help users make informed decisions. So too was our goal in the release of our Spend Reports & Analytics tool-set.

Across the life of this project, the team and I worked through a slew of user challenges that would culminate in 7 key visual aids for the Pro Dashboard. Throughout the process, I uncovered a litany of grievances from our pros that helped educate us on their needs, and contributed to a robust feature set for our ever-growing Pro customers.

THE TOOLS OUR PROS NEED

The Problem

Pro customers spend thousands at Lowe's every year. The data behind those purchases — what they bought, how much, who spent it — already lived in our systems. But what we handed back to them was a single, dense table of transactions. No patterns. No trends. No way to make sense of it without exporting to a spreadsheet and doing the legwork themselves.

Competitors were already offering spend dashboards and analytics tools. Our Pros noticed. If we couldn't surface the value locked inside their own data, it was only a matter of time before they found a platform that would.

The data was there. The need was clear. There had to be a better way.

"I have to pull everything into Excel just to understand what we've spent. The info is already in the system — I just wish it was laid out better."

What they had was a long list of line items with no way to make sense of it. What they needed was something that could turn all that raw data into something they could actually use.

The information was already there — every order, every dollar, every category our Pros touched. We just needed to build the layer that made it meaningful.

The information was already there — every order, every dollar, every category our Pros touched. We just needed to build the layer that made it meaningful.

The Solution

Spend Reports & Analytics transforms the purchasing data Pro organizations already generate into a clear, visual, and genuinely useful experience. Where the standard was once a long table of transactions, we now match — and in many ways exceed — the kind of spend intelligence found in leading business tools.

Year-over-year comparisons, category breakdowns, buyer-level spend, fulfillment analysis — all served up in a format that's intuitive at a glance. And the more data that flows through it, the more valuable it becomes — surfacing patterns and insights that help Pros buy smarter over time.

The result feels less like a retail feature and more like a financial platform built right into the place they already shop.

"It's really like a QuickBooks type software built into the Lowe's platform."

The desktop view was just the start. The full experience extends seamlessly to mobile — giving buyers, admins, and team leads access to the same depth of data from anywhere. Optimized for a quick check between tasks, without sacrificing any of the detail that makes it valuable.

Spend Intelligence, Anywhere

Seven widgets, one scrollable experience. Each view is purpose-built around how Pros actually work — fast to scan, easy to act on, and always surfacing exactly what the business needs to see. From overall spend and savings to buyer-level breakdowns, job costs, and fulfillment trends — it's all there.

Scroll through and it clicks immediately — this is spend data the way it should have always been served. The kind of visibility that used to require a separate tool, now built right into the platform where the purchasing actually happens. Let's break down what's powering it.

A SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH

Shipped–And Celebrated

Spend Reports & Analytics launched quietly — and still found its audience. In the first two weeks, 25,000 Pro customers discovered the feature entirely on their own, with no ad spend and no promotion. Just Pros poking around the site and landing on something that immediately made sense to them.

Over the following six weeks, internal email targeting pushed adoption up 460% — all before a single dollar of paid media.

But the most telling signal wasn't the numbers. It was the behavior. Unprompted, users began going back through their own historical data and cleaning it up — correcting PO numbers, standardizing job names — just to make their charts more accurate. That's not feature adoption. That's ownership.

Users weren't just consuming the tool, they were investing in it. That kind of engagement doesn't come from good marketing. It comes from getting the product right.

An Ecosystem has been made

This wasn't just a UI endeavor but the foundation of something bigger. Every purchase a Pro makes now feeds a system that gets smarter over time. Better data means more precise insights. More precise insights surface opportunities — bulk discounts, buying patterns, savings recommendations — that prompt smarter, more frequent purchasing, which adds more data and sharpens the picture further. A truly virtuous feedback loop.

The more Pros engage, the more value the platform returns to them. That loop is a product in its own right. Spend Reports & Analytics didn't just solve a visibility problem. It created the engine for a far deeper and more loyal relationship between Lowe's and the professionals who depend on a consistent and dependable experience.

Future Opportunities

The data being collected today opens the door to something even more powerful — intelligent, personalized nudges that meet Pros exactly where they are. Already knowing what an organization buys, how often, and through which channels means we can surface the right offer at the right moment.

A bulk discount they're one order away from. A savings program their purchasing pattern already qualifies them for. A card that would instantly save them 5% on everything they're already spending.

These examples are just the beginning. The more data flows through the system, the more precisely we can guide Pros toward smarter decisions — building the kind of loyalty that doesn't need to be bought, because it's been genuinely earned.
